Bandcamp is a great service… they are some of the good guys. Highly recommended for any musician.

Meanwhile, i’m at work on a couple film projects, and rehearsing with dj/rupture’s Nettle for shows in Sweden and elsewhere.

ok, trying to get caught up. my new CD finally came back from the printer, and i got my first copies just before my 6/26 show with the Moools in Tokyo. That was a great one, with a packed house and so many old friends showed up as well. After my solo set, i sat in with the band, reprising the string arrangements i did for their new record Weather Sketch Modfied (as best i could without the help of 15 violins).
Then to Kyoto for a lovely intimate show with members of Soft, and then back out to the countryside to prepare for the Water & Light Project show. our days were spent rehearsing with all the various musicians, tweaking music to match video and vice-versa, and lots of bathing in hot springs in the shadow of Mt. Daisen. also killing bugs. avoid these:

there was an attempt to stream the event here… didn’t seem to work too well but there are a few clips. i’ll put up my own soon.

tomorrow it’s off to Seattle for a friend’s wedding, and a show with the amazing John Atkins (764-HERO, Magic Magicians) on 7/13.

yes, my new solo CD is finally done and in my hands! it’s called An Albatross and a Half.

tonight’s show will be the special real actual physical debut for this object, which will be available for purchase!

Japan Trip

So I’m in Japan, performing and music directing for the Water and Light Project, and doing a mini-tour as well. Ah Japan.

for the project I’ll be doing some solo cello performance, and working with Kyoto band Soft, and a local Taiko drum ensemble, and a junior high school brass band(!), all playing my compositions or things we’ve worked up together.

So I’m soon headed to Japan to work with the Water and Light Project, taking charge of the music for an amazing outdoor spectacle in the far reaches of Tottori prefecture, and also playing some shows in Tokyo and Kyoto with the likes of the Moools, Itoken, and Soft. Super excited.

On the way back I’ll be passing through Seattle and playing a show or two.

Living Room Residency / New Album

I’ll be playing at the Living Room on the Lower East Side for the first 3 thursdays in May.

The new album just got back from mastering by the brilliant Mell Dettmer, and I’m finalizing the artwork with the fabulous Kat Catmur.

Spring is arriving on some stealthy feet in NYC. Everyone agrees that it’s definitely the new year now… even the Chinese, even the Persians.

For me, I’m excited that my new record will finally make its way into the world! I’m having a special release event on April 10th 18th at Vaudeville Park in Brooklyn. More info on the shows page.

There will be other release-related events to come, stay tuned.

I’m doing some other exciting things… collaborating with brilliant folks in an event called Synesthesia, finishing up the Nettle record with Dj/Rupture, some arrangements for Hotel Lights, songwriting and movie scoring with the fabulous Maggie Kim, and planning a collaboration with some great visual artists in rural Japan… hopefully a Japan mini-tour as well. I’ve finished recording and mixing my new record. I’m happy and relieved and exhausted and I will never make another record this way! But anyway, I’m proud of it too. Now comes a bunch of boring steps to bring it to you. Coming soon.

But in the meantime, I have some great shows coming up… playing in Cannes with dj/Rupture, a big show in Brooklyn Feb 4 with guitarist Kelli Ruddick and cellist Emily Hope Price, and a show at Bard College with Telepathe. check the shows page for more info.
